Writing about this album takes me back to 1977, where I cut up my brother's bicycle with a hacksaw to create my version of windchimes/bell sounds. I drilled holes in each part of what was left of his bicycle, and hung them with fishing line on a home-made frame...hitting them and recording whatever sounded good.
I then recorded the sounds of the spokes of the wheels, from said bicycle, as I turned them with the pedal mechanism, using forks or other things that would make a curious sound.
My brother came home and wondered where his bicycle was...what could I say..."I have a recording of it", and that is "teche"...recorded in August 1977 using electric guitar and the bicycle, "live" in one take, using the two tape recorder loop technique I use to this day.
The other three songs were recorded at the same time as my recent "Hotel" album...using sounds that I thought complemented the feel of "teche".
"Thoughts Of The Sleepless" is an album filled with guitars/percussive family heirlooms/ pedal harmonium, and a heap of grainy, grimy tape loops.
Steve Brand's album cover reflects my thoughts, and succinctly capture's the album's title. Mucho respect Steve...
This is my 20th.release with AtmoWorks...this one being the 10th. solo effort. I am always grateful to, and have respect for, the work and support AtmoWorks puts into all of the artists on the label. It cuts both ways.
