A little bit extra on the source material for "Harmonium". It was recorded at a friend {Peter Webb)'s farm 100 or so miles out of Melbourne, Australia in 1977, on an old pedal harmonium.
After I gave Pete Kelly the album material, I forget about it 'till I received an email saying that is was finished. What Pete did with this recording, and how he does what he does, I don't even want to ask...what I do know that it IS something else indeed!!!
It was indeed a luxury also, to listen to what was once a creaky old instrument, with me bellowing away on it, and for Pete to convolute its tranformation into a new realm.
The cover art by Kati Astraeir is a sensory knockout ...what can I say.
This album is singularly brilliant for me; two of my absolute favorite people and two of the most talented ambient musicians I've come across combined on one release. It's simply a beautiful album!
'Harmonium' is an album that was almost not made - but fate thought otherwise...
Here's the story:
In July 2008, Dean Richards (Disturbed Earth) sent an unreleased album of his harmonium material to Pete Kelly (Igneous Flame), with a view to him doing a rework of that album. After repeated listenings, Pete did some initial musical 'sketches', but he wasn't satisfied with his initial input and as he was also working on other projects, he temporarily put it aside.
He returned to it frequently (without a great deal of success) and proceeded to do a significant amount of wotk on the material in January 2009. At the end of that month, something 'clicked' and he realised he could actually 'do something' with it. So, he then worked intensively on it and finished the project at the end of February. At that point He felt confident to tell Dean that it was finished and here it is !'
