So yesterday (today? - is it tomorrow if you haven't slept?) was Thanksgiving here in the States. It's kind of a silly holiday, celebrating a quite possibly mythical winter feast shared by Pilgrims and Indians shortly after the European settlement of the North American continent, but the spirit of the celebration is something I've always connected with. Giving thanks for those things that matter to you is a truly noble pursuit, and I wanted to take a moment to share those things for which I am truly thankful.
First, and always...for family. In my case, this means Eileen - my Lady Wife and true light of my life. If it weren't for her patience, guidance and willingness to accept my idiosyncracies and oft-times bizarre behavior my life would be nothing but a pale shadow of what it is today. I truly couldn't imagine my life without her, and that's exactly as I would have it.
Second, for friends. There are many old and lifelong friends that I could mention here whose companionship has stood the test of many years. More appropriately for this site however are those special individuals in this universe that through diverse means I am now priveledged to call my friends.
For Jacy - as always, my dear friend. You above all others give me hope for the online "community" as a whole. That one such as you exists gives hope to everyone.
For Mark, Pete, Peter and Steve - its been a true priviledge getting to know each of you, learning the faces and names you put to the particular muses that drive you and reading the passion with which you court them in your communications. I am truly grateful for the connection we've made; you are wonderfully special people.
For Dean - my dear man, you are simply one of the greatest souls I have ever known. There exists in you a capacity for treasure the likes of which I have never seen. Regardless of your circumstance, you find a way to bring a sense of purpose and belief to those people you touch. That's a rare gift.
For Agent Dhonson and Senor Fred - you two will never know just how much it means to me to be drawn into the inner circle of something as incredibily and indelibly special as this venture. Your openness and willingess to share this experience is more than I could have ever hoped for, and I can't wait to see where this ride takes us next. Thanks for....well, everything I guess.
And most especially for John - with you I have found a symbiotic relationship that is usually reserved for lifelong friends. I'm truly grateful, not only for the trust and faith you've placed in me since I first got involved in this but also for the constant "feedback" - the ongoing dialogue that never fails to make me smile. You are truly a dear and special friend, and I'm grateful to know you.
Finally, I am thankful for community - for this amazing universe that each of us creates at AtmoWorks everytime we log on and contribute. Early on, we referred to this site as "Music Nerd Heaven", but it's evolved into so much more than that. This group cross-pollenates and inspires each other every day, bringing out new music and new ideas with an astounding and inspring regularity.
I can't help but feel I've come home. And for that, I'm incredibly grateful.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.
Geoff
