Rock band Mudvayne's drummer Matt McDonough is a busy guy.
For the past 10 years, McDonough has dabbled in electronic music after a lifetime interest in the genre and finally released some electronic material.
It has been nice to see it all come to fruition, he said.
"So it's kind of exciting to see something actually from Point A to Point B finished," McDonough said in a recent telephone interview.
McDonough and the rest of Mudvayne are about three-quarters of the way through their current tour, which stops in Abilene Sunday night at the Abilene Civic Center Expo Hall, 1100 N. 6th St., with Nonpoint and In This Moment.
Last fall, McDonough released his first solo EP and last week released a 10-year long collaboration with high school buddy John Strate-Hootman as the two joined together to create the electronic/ambient duo miKronNaught.
"It's kind of a passion for me and something fun to share with some friends of mine from the past," McDonough said.
The album, in which McDonough is known as MjDawn and Strate-Hootman is Vir Unis, and is titled "Neutrino_2.1," and is available online at www.AtmoWorks.com, the pair's online record label.
Last year also saw the release of Mudvayne's most recent album, "The New Game," which peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard 200 chart and whose current single, "Do What You Do," peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.
Even with the current downturn in the economy, the band is still selling tickets to the show and people are buying their records.
"Obviously, the single is doing well on radio, so we can't complain about that. It's nice to see that after a few records, it's nice to see another No. 1 single. It's nice to have a career, so we are really, really thankful for that," McDonough said.
McDonough does not see the electronic music as something that separates him from what he does with Mudvayne either.
"As an artist, I have a reasonability to take advantage of whatever mediums are available to me," he explained
Instead, he thinks of the genres as forms of each others and he used the different avenues of music while the recording albums with Mudvayne in the past, so it is something that goes with him.
"Like I said, it's something that I have enjoyed since I was a kid," he said of electronic music.
It is funny how people have received the music, McDonough said, because he does not feel like he needs to get any approval from it at all.
"I'm not doing it for money, and I'm not doing it for any kind of career thing, but more so for some personal enjoyment and to just be creative, which is a really powerful thing and really positive," he said. "I am just glad to actually get to work with stuff like this and actually see it done."
