DOOMSDAY...the most hardcore movie...

I wanted to create my first blog post...I've been meaning to find an outlet for my writing and this works this a.m. ~ I watched the movie "Doomsday" last night. I picked it because the preview made it look a bit like the old Mad Max movies...namely "Road Warrior" a movie I'd watched over and over as a teenager. I used to love the movies because they made me feel strong...they made me feel that if the world systems go to shit I'd still be able to shave my head and paint my face and don a handmade obsidian machete and FIGHT...the thing about Doomsday was that it was the most gory hardcore movie I'd seen in years...just tons of spurting blood and heads flying...but the leading role was played by a WOMAN...I thought a very similar role to the one Mel Gibson plays over and over...the whole pattern of losing one's mind after losing everything and just turning into a pure assassin...well there is alot more to it than that, but that is the gist of it a bit. This Heroine is like that - and add a little Laura Croft to her and then picture Laura Croft removing her robotic eye to look around to aid her with her next assasination - wow. I sat and watched her and somehow felt strong, like my children watching Matrix and trying to run up the walls (it was funny to watch one actually fall on his little butt!). The feeling comes from that point beyond fear when our little worlds go to shit and chaos I think, that feeling that tests what we are worth as a human. I think this is also why I loved "Into the Wild" so much. That constant testing oneself to see what one is made of. I had some years like this, living in a cabin at the foot of the woods with a violent alcoholic man and not much money...learning to cut up an elk out of pure necessity, learning to garden not for fun but for hunger...learning to use what resources I had to survive and insure the survival of my child. I could easily kill then, I could easily fight without a second thought. I think I've gotten soft over the years, I've added many "morals" to my bag just because I am now "civilized" - it is the easier, softer way to live this way - not just for me but for everyone else...and yet I still get a rush off of the thought that if the world goes to total chaos I could easily become an assassin who takes her eye out at will. Albeit a 40-something one with a bit of a paunch and gray hairs...well living on straight Elk and stinging nettles would put me right back into shape in no time! And the henna would cover the gray, the tribal tattoos cover the wrinkles...yes, there is a timeless heroine in there somewhere. This will fuel my music today...I will create a new song and ask my son to bring out the didgeridoo to sample for it!! Maybe I'll change my name...I am trading in the Soccer mom mini-van for a 4 wheel drive Outback in December...that outta make me feel just a little bit tougher, lol...I'm out everyone I gotta go lift some weights, lol...
