iMac?

After multiple problems with pc's and both a laptop and desktop currently not working - we're considering getting an iMac. Does anyone have experience using an iMac as their main music computer? Am I going to be really ticked I didn't wait to get a Mac Pro (which will be a long wait!)

First issue I have is my Presonus Firestudio is firewire 400 - and the iMac is 800. Some searching shows an adapter will probably work - I'm still looking into that.

I plan to use Reaper as my main recording software.

Any good cheap drum machine type software recommendations?

My biggest concern - and Heidi's too - is if the iMac is "good enough" for music - or do I need to wait until later in the year and get a Mac Pro type desktop.

This iMac will be my primary (and probably "only") music computer going forward for a very long while. The specs on it are drastically better than my old music computer.

Eileen has an iMac, and she absolutely loves it. Setting aside the fact that she doesn't use it for music, I'd have to say that the best part about it is the simple intuitiveness of the platform. You want to do something, but you're not sure how so you just sort of "do it" and it works! It's a far cry from the old iMacs with the handle.

I can't really comment on how good a mac is, I just want to chime in and say I want one too! :) And also something I didn't quite think of is that a mac runs Windows just as good as or better than a PC. So if you have a few must have apps in Windows, just run a virtual machine (might impare performance though) or make a parallell installation and boot in Windows.

Since I'm a developer on the MS .NET platform it's a need for me.
