I've been a member of the Ambient Mailing List on Hyperreal off and on over the last decade. There have been several surveys to pick the best ambient albums - usually where each voter selects their Top 10 albums. Below are the raw results from many of them which are very fun to read through.

You can see several of these in the "essential info" section of Epsilon on Hyperreal - however, most of these are not published there.

I hope to start a 2008 ambient survey on the ambient list - and I'll announce that for your input here as well when the time comes.
