Steve Brand - She Covers the Sky

Once again, Steve Brand emerges from his Mac-based musical cocoon to bring us more of his singular art! AtmoWorks is thrilled to bring you "She Covers the Sky", Steve's 5th solo release since the rebirth of the label, and his 9th overall release with us since mid-2008. Steve had this to say about his latest work.

"Early in 2009, I had a recurring idea to make music that was dedicated to honoring the return to Earth of the divine feminine, or goddess energy. Female energy. When I have ideas that keep coming up over and over, as this one did, I never over-analyze them, as they find a way to come to life one way or another.

Central to the idea of the return of the divine feminine, is the idea that about 10,000 years ago there was a shift from matriarchal societies to patriarchal societies. Some say that this shift of emphasis was due to abuses of power during the more matriarchal period, but now the sacred feminine is returning to Earth—not to seize power once again, but to restore balance between the two energies.

This album, whose title refers to the Egyptian sky goddess Nuit or Nut, is characterized by subdued melodies, drifting dreamworld keyboard textures, bells, gongs, voice, and sounds from Mother Earth Herself."

You can read Steve's full blog post regarding the release here.

Hands down, Steve Brand is putting out some of the most consistently excellent ambient and atmospheric music on the market today, and "She Covers the Sky" is a spectacular addition to an already outstanding legacy.

Now that I've listened to it a good solid 15 or 16 times now... I can safely give it two ambient thumbs up. :-)

I have to add, the cover and inside feature details of an iris. Iris was a Greek goddess associated with women and rainbows, and the iris itself is thought to be associated with the original French kings and queens, the Merovingian, who were said to be descended from the bloodline of Mary Magdala.

It's very gratifying to have this work received so well from all my esteemed co-AtmoDudes. I'm very fortunate to have this outlet for these from-the-heart expressions. My deepest wish is that, to the broadest extent possible, this music is allowed to reach and bless the lives of others in the way that is needest most. Really, what artist could ask for more.

the cover depicts the feel of this album.
what a beautifully gorgeous way to represent and celebrate what this album is about.
the warmth and the glow from this album is music at it's finest true state...no need of knowing what makes the sounds, only that they are.
this album leaves me saying these few crumby words, needless to say though, they come from my heart and I love your music
with deep respect Steve.

Love the cover art on this one... and I love the album as I've listened to it about 10 times through now (thanks to Steve for the pre-release copy!).
