Hello, everyone! Here we are in April already. In the northern hemisphere we're either starting to see spring roll in or it's already in full swing! There are tons of things going on at AtmoWorks right now, and that's a wonderful thing! (wow - I think I just rhymed that...)
Coming soon: Pixyblink - Peridot
Coming this weekend is a new release from Pixyblink - "Peridot"... "On Pixyblink’s sophomore album, we take a deeper look into her psyche as it is translated into music. The elements found there can range from enchanting to disturbing to blissful. At times, all three of these elements can be present in one song. Her latest effort features 10 selections of dark ambience, but their creator would tell you that each of them is more like a dream in itself."
Coming soon: Landschaft - Nostalgia
Planned for 5/8 is a beautifully subtle piano ambient album from Landschaft. Delicate and minimal - this will definitely be a favorite among fans of piano and gentle ambient. I had this album on repeat an entire day.
Coming soon: Interstitial - Temporal Arc
Planned for later in May is a reissue of Temporal Arc which was originally released on the Red Antenna label in 2001. Interstitial is the artist name for AtmoWorks co-owner John Koch-Northrup (or as I like to say... "me"...) It's being remastered by Matt McDonough (MjDawn), cover design by Steve Brand, and my wife took the original photo used. It's a mix of heavier beat ambient techno and beatless ambient... some dark soundscapes, some lightness... touches of microsound, hints of dubby techno. My whole thought behind "Interstitial" was that it was somewhere between genres. I've decided to add my "Marco Polo" track from the 2002 AtmoWorks compilation "Portraits" to this album reissue... this track came from the same time period and seems to fit well with the other tracks.
New Artists and Albums further out on the horizon...
I'm incredibly excited to mention some new artists planning releases in 2009...
Michael Mantra will be releasing a long form ambient album called "A/G" with AtmoWorks in the coming months. I've heard it, I love it. Many ambient fans will recognize Michael from his releases on Silent, Hypnos, Silentes, etc.. http://www.discogs.com/artist/Michael+Mantra
Steve Brand and Ishq have a double album collaboration planned for release on July 17th - "Spiritual Science" and "Voice From Home". Steve is writing truly wonderful music from his heart - and having a collab with him and Matt Hiller (Ishq) on AtmoWorks is truly a joy for me. If you'd like to read more about Matt/Ishq - take a look at his label website: http://www.v-i-r-t-u-a-l-w-o-r-l-d.com/
We also have plans to release Arcticology who has released four outstanding ambient albums on the Earth Mantra label - free to download and very highly recommended! http://arcticology.com/
The Elf Machine, which is an alias for AtmoWorks founder John Strate-Hootman and you probably know him better as Vir Unis... He's planning a three album Elf Machine release in the near future. One is a new studio album that John's been working on for at least a year - the other two albums are live on-air radio concerts on Phonaut's program on WNUR radio in Evanston/Chicago. One set is from 2009 the other I think is from 2004.
Float Method - Desolate Kingdom... this album has been in production for about a year - and it's just about ready to go. Probably releasing in the June timeframe.
In addition - sometime later in 2009 we'll see albums from Bob Ohrum and Eyes Cast Down.
Of course, we also have the big AtmoWorks Compilation underway. Tracks have been submitted and we're beginning to listen and sort out which tracks go on the album.
Thanks!
As always, thank you for supporting AtmoWorks and our artists!
