Been relaxing & enjoying the mild weather (After our week of hideous 38+ C temps & Summer has only just started!). So I decided to hit the chill-out on itunes & power-napped the entire day, though my daughter kept on turning off the sound every fe...
Those two Cure albums are amongst my favourite Cure releases (Disintegration is still my absolute fav!)
Anyway, I've been listening to a lot of live stuff I found on the Internet Archive (A great site). All of these are up for free download as we...
Emerging from 2002, sympathetic | DIVISION began creating noisy unstructured & rather abstract ambient works. Many of these have been left behind and forgotten on broken hard-drives & severely scratched CDs. It wasn't till 2005 did these soundscapes begin to take a real shape and gain a real voice. Heavily inspired by the ocean, science fiction and disharmony the project has been described as minimalist/experimental, but sometimes delves into more noise driven soundscapes. sympathetic | DIVISION's works are often themed around other worlds, whether that be real or imagined and an imperfect future before us all.
“I have always been obsessed with worlds beyond our own Earth, whether they be physical or incorporeal. So much of what I try to achieve musically (a term which I use loosely!) has these themes hidden amongst the tones & static. Also, having lived near the ocean for some years now, I have become rather influenced by the power of what lies in those depths. What mysteries may lie deep below those waves may also exist out there in the far depths of the cosmos. I don’t know what it is that lies out there beyond my reach. Perhaps what I create is the closest I’ll get to knowing what it is...”
sympathetic | DIVISION has had a number of releases through various net-labels and has also collaborated with the Japanese cyber-punk word-smith Kenji Siratori in 2007. Sadly due to unforeseen events these releases are now unavailable as of this moment, hopefully in the near future these will be re-released.
sympathetic | DIVISION is also one half of nonterraqua, a South Australian based collective where ambient/experimental artist can meet & share ideas.
