We live and breathe music.

I read an article some time ago in Popular Science about the 'ring theory' of the nature of the Universe. Two physicists worked out the theory, which is supported by the mathematics, that the smallest unit or particle of 'reality' is actually a ring which is interlinked with other rings that literally make up 'the fabric of Reality' as we know it.

Any thoughts on this?

It's an interesting idea, but when regarding the "discoveries" of "modern science," I can't help thinking of at least two things (I've posted these here before):

1. The Allegory of Plato's Cave

2. The blind men and the elephant

Still, it's important that we keep pushing back the boundaries of the known.

The thing to remember is that 'theory' and 'discovery' are often two very different things. Having said this, I like the idea of the Jain story, in which the wise man says, "All of you are right"- there is always more than one side to a story, or more than one aspect to any object.

I tend to feel that Quantum physics is shifting more toward a metaphysical view of reality, especially in the last few years.

Eventually Scientists will "prove" what Metaphysicians have Known all along...and call it something else.

(Correcting my spelling here!)

Quantum Physics: the left braining proving to the right brain what it already Knew. ;-)

Mathematics eh,

The nature of what scientists do, is to to focus on things in isolation, without looking at how things work in nature.

Our technological level is still utterly primitive compared to the fantastic complexity of the earth that we (temporarily) inhabit.

Yeah, that's why I have to laugh when I heard the latest, "The Theory of Everything"! "Everything" we can "prove" with a mathematical theory, that is. I've heard that once we move to a base 12 mathematics, instead of base 10, some new secrets will be unlocked. Beyond me, but still, fascinating.

Not only does science look at things in isolation, Pete, but our definitions and concepts are so limited and limiting. For instance, 20 years ago, no one would have believed that life could exist at the ocean floor. Yet, we discovered in the last few years that there are entire, unique ecosystems that exist in the most extreme of conditions. What does this suggest about life on other planets. What's more...is all Life, Life only when it's physical. There so much more to know and experience, before we can get close to the Theory of Everything...and once we're there, will we even care about a Theory of Everything.

Shouldn't be surprising, Steve. In 'The Fire From Within' don Juan Matus is quoted as having said that the earth is a giant living being, with it's own 'luminous egg' of energy. I totally feel this to be true, since there have been periods of 'expanded consciousness' where I felt almost merged with the consciousness of the surrounding trees. The Gaian mind at work, and it is a matter of our right brain opening up to perceptions that linear, left-brained thinking seems to be far behind. However, there appears to be an important function of the left-brain empirical thinking, if not only to definitively corroborate the holistic pattern approach of the right-brain. This brings to mind a story I read once of the Buddhist teacher and the monk who was learning. The monk was a trained scientist and and an athlete, and he struggled hard to climb to the top of Mt. Everest. After days of arduous effort, he found himself at the peak, only to discover the Buddhist teacher already there ahead of him, having levitated to the top of the mountain with no effort whatsoever.

It illustrates a point about perception. In quantum physics, it has also been said that viewing particles through an electron microscope actually changes what is being looked at, in some way, so that the nature of reality is really not as 'cut and dried' as empirical science tends to make it out to be.

Orb, you should write a book. A loooooooong book. ;-)

:P words do seem to come more easily to me in written format- get me on the phone, though, and it's an entirely different story... LOL

isn't our waking consciousness supposed to be 4th dimensional? [to wholly view 3 dimensions we must be viewing from a fourth, right?]
therefore, is it actually possible to view more than 3 dimensions from a 4th dimensional perspective [working on the idea that the fabric of reality is multidimensional -or- interdimensional] and would we be able to decipher any more than 3 dimensions even if we viewed them?.....like an ant viewing a human and attempting to work out it's dimensions and therefore, what it is.

am i being existentially nihilistic?

why do these ideas only induce more questions? and are more questions the answer?

If that's true, Zen Punk, then thank goodness there's more to consciousness and perception than "waking consciousness," and more ways of perceiving than with our "5 senses"! Perhaps we take in multi-dimensional information all the time, but fail to realize it. I've heard that we are limitless Being have a limited experience.

I was just reading the following today. I wrote it in my journal and at the time, I wasn't sure why, other than it would just help me remember it...or that I might need to pass it one to someone else. Maybe this is a good place to put it...

"Master, nothing can be proven by what you term facts, for facts will change as the understanding of mankind evolves and changes. Everything is conjecture, for reality is continually evolved and created through thought and emotion. Facts are only the current material manifestations of collective consciousness, collective thoughts that have been embraced into emotion by the whole of mankind.

"If what you believe is of a limited form, then that is your truth, and you are correct and precise. If you believe in an unlimited form, then that is your truth, correct and precise. But if you are searching for something to believe in, don't believe in either. Believe in you. There is no entity, no thing, no reality that is greater than you are, for you are the giver of all truth, the creator of all realities, the dispenser of all laws within your kingdom.

"Truth is a limitation, master. To say that anything is true indicates there is untruth. But in a greater understanding there is neither truth nor untruth; there is only the Isness of ongoing, evolving life. Life is the only reality and from that all truth emerges, for truth is evolved and create every moment by every thought you have.

"Love what you are intently and listen to the God (a term that Ramtha uses for our convenience in regard to All That Is) within you, which speaks a very subtle tone. It is called feelings. The feelings, if you listen to them, will tell you of truth and your path for enlightenment."

- Ramtha "The White Book"

"Perhaps we take in multi-dimensional information all the time, but fail to realize it." - that is certainly something i would like to 'know' more about...
