We live and breathe music.

So, I just spent 3 hours getting some work done on my Chagall backpiece! Very excited!! It was actually not so bad the first 2 1/2 hours, til he started tattooing around where I had my scarification done. ouch.

Does anyone have tattoos??? If so, what? And where is the most painful place to get tattooed??

:) I like to talk about nonmusic stuff from time to time, so we can, ya know....spice it up a little! haha!

I have 9, up and down both arms (Phoenix, Medicine Wheel, Signature, Sunburst [left arm], Dreamcatcher [right arm]), on both shoulders (Mandala, Bear Paw) and on my right leg (Mandarin Characters for "two become one", Skinny Puppy logo). None hurt particularly much more than any other...I've always thought that if you can get through the first 6 minutes, you're pretty much home free. From what I've heard though, the ones on the inside surface of the arm, especially between the elbow and shoulder are the most painful. Very sensitive flesh under there. I'm sure there's others, but that one always strikes me as potentially massively hurtful. Maybe its 'cause I'm ticklish.

Nine??? Cool! What are they of?
I've got three of 'em & yes...the inside of the arm hurts!!! I've got an armband (Looks like a brick wall or tire tread) around my right arm that goes pretty close to the armpit! The one on my left arm (A cthulhu skull, with tentacles...my old housemate designed it for me, HP Lovecraft would be spinning in his grave! ) which goes from the top of my shoulder down to almost my elbow was fine, barely felt it! My first tattoo hurt a bit & bled a lot (Had a few the night before so my blood was a bit thin!). I want to get more down my arms & around my wrists, but money is tight!

Geoff... 9 tattoos... wow.

I think Matt might be able to weigh in on this topic... he's got a couple. ;-)

I have zero... and no plans to get one.

NINE?! Woooooowwww im SO jealous!! :) I would have tons by now, but the same, money is tight!! I have heard that the inside of the elbow hurts, and oh, where your spine & ribs are!!!!!! My tattoo goes right over my spine, so when he tattoos over that part, oh man...it hurts SO bad. I have 4 tattoos...my backpiece, 2 stars of David, one on each wrist (on the underside) and a spider on my chest area. The 3 other tattoos didnt hurt at all!
Towards the end of the session, I started shaking! I always bring an iced coffee with me, they say to eat something or drink something with a little bit of sugar.
John, you should totally get a tattoo :) Doesnt matt have his like, booty tattooed?? Ive seen his legs! They are awesome!! Im pretty sure he has beaten us all, I could NEVER get those places tattooed (ass, upper legs, etc)! hah. ive sat for 5 hours at a time working on my back, but for some reason this time around, it hurt worse. Lucky for my tattoo artist, I dont move a muscle, no matter how much pain im in! I have a tattoo poker face too :)
Im pretty sure Marc Chagall will be very proud of my tattoo, hes my favorite artist, and theres nothing I wouldve wanted more than a huge Chagall backpiece!
I think that piercings hurt worse than tattoos, especially in the places I had them, but its totally worth it, I think!! Im really thinking about getting them again, I was SO sad when I had to take them out!

OH! by the way, I wanna see you guys' tattoos!! Post pics!! I have mine on my page, ill take a picture of the latest addition asap :)

Just two self designed tattoos at the moment.

single line spiral work in a band around my left bicep with a small 'shield' with another spiralling design inside on the outside of the arm.

more single line spiral work on my right shoulder - a small double spiral in the centre that becomes two bigger spirals, one on each side, all inside an oval. This one represents that, apart from some hydrogen, every atom in each of us has been through 2 stars......

Wow! That sounds amazing!! :) Do you have pictures?
I want tons more tattoos, I just have to get some ideas, but I know that they will come to me when its time for me to get tattooed again. I will upload a recent picture of my back! Its almost done! tomorrow i have 3 more hours, for a grand total of 25 hours to do my backpiece. Yeesh. Sounds way worse than it actually is!! :)
Everyone who has replied to this discussion have tattoos that aew very spiritual, I like it!
But my next tattoo, I want a mechanical unicorn. Haha. So random, right?

a little late on this thread...
i've got 7 total, and the worst places for me to get tattooed were the elbow and the "ditch" (inside of elbow). the armpit is pretty sensitive too.
mine are located on the back of each calf (coffin on the left, key w/diamonds on the right), one on each upper arm(octopus on the left, bluebell faerie on the right - half sleeves), elbow (spider web w/skull), inner calf and ankle nautical star w/hot rod flames), back of neck (star of chaos).
i agree that once you get past the initial pain, it becomes easier. i use breathing techniques when it starts getting to be too much to bear and that helps me go to "my happy place".

Its never to late to reply!!

Wow, those sound like some amazing tattoos!! I agree, the breathing techniques do help ALOT!! And once the place goes numb, it doesnt hurt so bad, but man...sometimes, even if its numb, it still hurts SO bad!!
The pain isnt bad enough to make me stop getting tattooed, just like giving birth, it hurt likes a mofo, but once the pain is gone, you really forget about it!! My tattoo artist makes fun of me, cuz I use the breathing techniques, and he says "Well, I guess those child birth classes you took really helped!" haha. men.

i think its on your knuckles or fingers where there is bone close to the skin. There was a trend in certain uk parts or social groups to have love and hate tatooed on your fingers years back ( the uk just existed neanderthal age last year ) it was suppose to be where all the hard men ' had tatoos done and a symbolic message of ' i can shake your hand ' or smash your face in ' ........yeah its worrying.
