We live and breathe music.

I'm interested in what people use to create grooves on the fly (esp yourself, John S-H), as I'll be turning my attention to that in due course. NI's new Maschine looks really good - thoughts? All observations much appreciated.

I spent about an hour the other day sitting through all of the videos about the Maschine and it definitely got my fingers twitching. NI makes some excellent gear, and this new one looks very much like a winner. Korg's Kaoss Pad looks really interesting as well, though I'm not sure how much real groove building you can do with it as opposed to just manipulation.

I'm still happy with Fruity and Rebirth routed out to my hardware, effects, feedback, etc... Yeah - I'm not current on software. :-)

I like to make simple rythm on software or hardware and add some wierd rhytmic effects to make it more complex - just 2 or 3 effect processors -great weapon!

We're thinking somewhat alike, Vladimir - I've gotten into triple delays with different time parameters, and will probably try that on percussion parts soon (you can hear it used with guitar parts on Rebuild From Memory). Just messing around with one delay unit, and tweaking the feedback and dry/wet on the fly is a lot of fun.

sometimes I achieving interesting sound using simple old Roland-626 drummachine sound, processed thru few different analog effects, these old devices sometimes twisting mind !

Being a drummer, getting creative with beat making is a second nature. A lot of my best grooves are from the extemporisations and complexities I develop while on the drum kit, just messing about with what I already have by changing it. Or/and what I've written down as drum tab.

So, in some respects, some things I make are cognate to what started off on the drum kit, guitar, etc.

I do like to grooves on a drum, always have done, but try to emulate this with creating a base groove and then experiment with effects etc.

I like Reason's Redrum set up. You can create randomized patterns (and then play the role of central planner as you tweak them to sound right). It helps break the monotony. Sonic Charge's uToniq VST is also good for creating nice synth drum patterns that can also be randomized (I believe one of the Reason's developers developed this program as well).

I like Ableton's drumkits, and I like to use the pianoroll editor to come up with some grooves. I also like alot of the NI Reaktor grooveboxes. Recently I have been using my Roland Handsonic 10 to create some percussion grooves which can be mangled nicely in Ableton. Redrum is fun to use as well.
