Numina - Symbiotic Spaces
Thievery Corporation - Sounds from the Thievery Hi-Fi
Laurent Garnier - Unreasonable Behaviour
All excellent for different reasons. The Numina album is a 2 disc collection of his various ambient stuff from several years - Numina is consistently good. Definitely one of the better ambient artists out there right now. I've had plans to work with him for years - hopefully this will the year that project begins. (I keep dragging my feet... :)
Thievery Corporation is a great chilled out groove disc - very nice in the background.
Laurent Garnier... classic house, techno, etc... so many good tracks on this album and the style varies really nicely throughout the disc.
While Juno Reactor is very well known for their more intense trance/sci fi/dance oriented stuff (and it's fantastic, by the way) - this is a long form one track beatless ambient excursion... very nice.
Still listening to Portishead's new one. Played 'The Rip' three times in a row this morning in the car. Ryan (Camera bass player) told me that Radiohead is covering 'The Rip' in their new live set. Now that would be very good to see. I can totally see Thom Yorke singing that piece.
The more I listen to Portishead the more I like 'em.
Vir Unis and James Johnson - Perimeter. This is just stellar stuff. Best played, IMHO, on headset while walking through a busy metropolitan area. Be sure to set the volume just loud enough so that you can hear it and the ambient atmospherics of the city at the same about the same volume. It's amazing (bonus points if an ambulance goes by you at about 10mph with "Metabolizing the Intervals" on the headset. Truly otherworldly.)
Now
Steve Roach - A Deeper Silence. This is 'dedslo'.
Tomorrow - a Rush retrospective, on account of I just got tickets for the 6/15 show at the Tweeter Center and am all A-Twitter.
Willits-SakamotoOcean Fire an incredible work of fearless deconstructed ambience--'error-laden' sometimes to the point of fooling the listener into total sonic breakdown but morphs so effortlessly into warming, software tweaked guitar-keyboard atmospherics...Perhaps my favorite disc so far of 2008...
