Ive never really been prog rock but I do love what Ive heard from Steve Vai. I know Santana is an obvious one but I love the emotion I can feel in each note he plays. He makes the guitar cry like no one else.
Oh, this is so hard but so easy. In no particular order....
Alex Lifeson, Pat Metheny, Eddie Van Halen, Billy Gibbons, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Ian Crichton, Martin Gore, Ace Frehley, David Gilmour and the late Randy Rhodes.
I'm sure there are hundreds more, but those are the first names that spring to mind.
Some of my fave's (sorry, no partcular order here...) - Steve Wilson, Edgar Froese, Mick Ronson, Robert Smith, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Steve Roach (did he weild a parker fly at one stage?), Robert Rich (lap steel), Danny Cavanagh, Quorthorn, Robin Guthrie, Earl Slick, Marty Wilson-Piper, Jeff Pearce, Billy Duffy, John Denver (yes, seriously...), Yngwie Malmsteen (in small doses), Brett Myers, Mark Knopfler, Fear Falls Burning, Gary Numan, Fripp, René Rutten, Gary Moore, David Gilmour, Abbath, Michael Gallagher, Skip James, Ed Kuepper, Mike Van Portfleet, Dougie MacLean, Mikael Åkerfeldt, Phil Manzanera, Charlie Sexton, Bernard Butler, Torbjørn Pedersen.
