We live and breathe music.

I found an artist called Lustmord on myspace who at first did not seem too interesting but after I went back and had a good listen, his Black Stars Hang track caught my attention...Ive been mad on ambient for a year and a half now but haven't stumbled across Dark Ambient till i heard this guy. Sounds interesting but I know nothing of this genre...yet

All I know is a bit of his history of him from the interviews I read off his site @ lustmord.com

So...who can share with us all they now about Lustmord?

I only own one cd '...black stars' and I like it a lot. I think it's safe to say that Lustmord is 'dark ambient' for much of his work.

I get pegged as dark ambient from time to time - although I don't really think of myself in those terms (my track "temporal arc" on my profile page is a blending of darker ambient soundscape and basic channel / chain reaction grooves... multiple reviews and listener comments kept telling me it sounded a bit like "lustmord meets monolake" - which I took as a very high compliment - I'm a definite fan of Monolake and I greatly respect Lustmord's work...)

I've heard a lot of music that I consider to be dark - and I do have a tendency for liking that more than lighter fluffier stuff... I know the really strong fans of dark ambient consider just about anything on the Cold Meat Industries label as true dark ambient. However, I haven't heard anything on the label so can't comment... :)

I own pretty much everything he's done, from Heresy in 1990 through Juggernaut in 2007. There's some very early stuff (read as "early 80's"!) on Sterile Records that are almost impossible to find, but I'm hoping to run across them one day. All of it is....well, it's damn dark and creepy is what it is. Personal favorite is his 1995 collaboration with Robert Rich entitled "Stalker".

Other artists to check out if you're interested in Dark Ambient.

Kammarheit
Northaunt
Sinke Dus
Caul
Gustaf Hildebrand
Desiderii Marginis
Svartsinn
Bluedark

All are good, the first three are remarkable. Some very good stuff here. Lustmord was one of the very first ambient acts I ever heard, outside of the obligatory "Eno/Budd/Lanois" triumverate and his music always evoked a sense of incredible isolation for me. Which seems correct considering the genre.

Anyway, enjoy!!

kool! thanks endoflogic. i'll check those out! Lustmord's way of making u feel scared and isolated is exactly what i think makes his music perfect. He really hit want he wanted the listener to feel. He gives the that "thing" he wanted, much respect to him for that! Top producer.
I try to do that a lot of the time with what i make myself.

I had a quick look at cold meat label. I heard a few artists to get a rough idea...very eclectic, interesting. I shall give it a visit every now and then...very sinister looking site it is!

I heard of Hildebrand because he was in Dean top friends on myspace, he was pretty good!

Well, its another musical adventure for me checkin out these artists....LOL

cheers Salvatorrrrre

Hi all - I also agree with Endoflogic that the Lustmord / Robert Rich collaboration 'Stalker' is excellent. With a good set of headphones, it's pure bliss! And thanks for the list of other dark ambient artists. I'll be sure to check them all out.

ok Geoff. Any dark ambient questions I may have, I'll turn to u :)

Lustmord gets irritated when people call him "the father of dark ambient" or that sort of thing.

I think I'd feel kinda ridiculous being called the father of dark ambient or whatever. Sounds pretty cheesy for sure.

Hey Savo-

If you're beginning to dig on dark ambient-check out www.darkwinter.com My old label mate Nathan has done a stellar job at keeping the sinister ambient fires cooking!

A big part of what got me into electrnoic music was Coil, and even though they are all over the place
(style-wise) during their years of work, there are many pieces that fall under the blanket of dark ambient.
