Very shortly after my beloved grandfather passed, I was at a HUGE rummage sale at a church in the middle of the desert.. I was going to be drumming in the day of the dead parade here in Tucson, so I wanted to find a nice suit-like jacket.. There were hundreds and hundreds to choose from. A dark earthy green one with big stitches and buttons caught my eye, so I forked over the $2 and it was mine. Later that week my mother saw me in it, and I could tell she was holding back tears.. It had been my grandfathers.

That's a great story, reminds me of those in Lyall Watson's book (can't remember which one) where he discusses chance - such as a policeman giving a member of the public his office phone number, later that day he walk past a phone box ion town which starts ringing and when he picks it up it is the same guy calling the number the policeman had read out wrong earlier that day.....

is there coincidence, serendipity or fate?

So what's the answer?

The answer is it's in Panama. The question is just intended to cause pointless discussion, which is kind of fun.

Well, for me anyway....

There is synchronicity.

There is likely some intermediate theory between "evolution" and "creationism"...have some called it "intelligent design"? But for it to work, it has to be divorced from the dogma of religion...and the dogma of science as we know it now. Scientists typically think that consciousness comes from matter. It's the opposite, consciousness creates matter. Without consciousness, there is no matter. or it begins to break down.

Regarding the temple that was found... As things are now, Africa is thought to the where most of mankind "sprang from," but there's a growing theory that there were several cradles of civilization, there were several species of humans that evolved in several different areas, in relative isolation. There's also a theory that they will never find intermediate species, because THERE IS NO intermediate species. Huge leaps were taken...in part by "intervention" and "manipulation" and in part at the level of consciousness. Species and civilizations may go back farther than we currently realize. So, there may well be civilizations for which there is no remaining evidence, due to the expanse of time that elapsed, movement of the earth's crust, comets, and resulting tsunamis, glacial erosion. Some think there have been several "reboots" of the species here on earth. We often mourn the loss of species, but we fail to realize that at one point on earth, the diversity of species was thousands of times what it is now...there's always this process of trimming back, and building up again, but because of our limited point of view, we currently cannot see these cycles.

As science works now, just relying on "evidence" (that we can recognize with the limited rational mind), there will be these apparent gaps.

How's that for a random rant!!!

That's the thing... you can't prove you wrong or right on that. No one can - it's a faith leap either direction (ok - there are probably many directions - but there are 2 big directions that tend to have people jumping where I live... evololution vs. creationism).

Tangent... cool that archeologists found the temple in Syria (I think? Only saw a quick snippet on the news this morning) that predates the pyramids and may be the first permanent structure... built by nomadic tribes that may have now had a reaon to settle. Interesting... Of course - in 30 years we'll find something else - but that's the great thing with people - we keep searching.

I'm pretty sure Mauritius is off the east coast of Africa. I used to know a guy who hailed from there.

Mauritius is a small island nation off the coast of Africa, about 600 miles east of Madagascar.

Somebody saw the special on Hobbits that was on Nova a few nights ago!!

For those of you who didn't, "hobbit" is the nickname of a proto-human species (homo floresiensis) that was discovered only 5 years ago on the Indonesian island of Flores. It was given this nickname due to its tiny size (roughly the size of 4 year old child), and is theorized to have lived concurrently with (if completely removed from) homo sapiens.

It's fascinating stuff...if you like paleontology.

I saw this last night on the Science Channel. Fascinating. Although the "scientist" that looked a touch like someone's granny (it was a male), irritated the living stuff out of me. Just another skeptic that throws the proverbial baby out with the water AND the tub.

What theory do they have for huge leaps?
